The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization offers a monetary financial planning benefit once every five years to all benefit-eligible physicians for financial planning expenses. Financial planning is also offered through the employee assistance program (EAP), which hosts basic budgeting and home buying seminars, and provides personal financial sessions on-site. In addition, the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) benefits office offers retirement planning seminars to all employees.

Additional Policies and Practices:

Recruiting: MGH uses senior placement agencies to target mature workers and retirees. The hospital also works with Operation A.B.L.E. (Ability Based on Long Experience) to recruit mature employees and posts job openings on RetirementJobs.com.

Workplace Culture/Continued Opportunities: Employees working 20 or more hours per week are eligible for tuition reimbursement and the MGH Leadership Academy, which provides management classes to managers and emerging leaders. Full- and part-time employees benefit from in-house classroom training and online training.  

Long-service anniversaries are celebrated with announcements, parties, gifts and awards. Ether Day, MGH's most important community celebration, honors long-service employees for their commitment and loyalty.  

Employees have opportunities to gain new experiences by working on temporary assignments in other departments, on team projects and by participating in a formal job rotation program.  

Accommodations made at MGH include flexible scheduling, reassignment of nonessential duties, changes in physical set-up of work areas, occupational therapy evaluation and assistance, and the use of assistive devices.
 
Benefits/Health: Employees working 20 or more hours per week receive individual and family medical coverage, individual and family prescription drug coverage, individual and family vision and dental insurance, individual and family long-term care insurance as well as short- and long-term disability.   

Health benefits for retirees include individual and spouse medical and drug coverage, and individual and spouse long-term care insurance.  

New hires are eligible for all of the above benefits upon retirement. In addition, retirees under age 65 with medical coverage receive a hearing aid benefit at no additional cost.  

Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are available to assist in covering out-of-pocket health care costs.
