Flexible working hours are also available on an individualized basis. For older workers, who may be serving as caretakers, this program is especially beneficial.

Health Promotion and Protection: Health Talks are offered several times a year, with doctors or other health-care professionals speaking to older workers about managing their health.

The company's HR department also manages the Health Awareness Program, which integrates health protection and prevention by controlling occupational diseases and injuries. This program also modifies, where possible, the job structure or environment to make it less hazardous and less stressful.

Sports and recreational activities are organized throughout the year to encourage employees and their families to remain active. Badminton tournaments, family days and charity events are just a few examples of this effort.

Diversity Promotion: Lam Soon Edible Oils works with employees reaching retirement age to help retain their expertise by remaining in their current position or passing their knowledge down to younger employees.

As of April 2011, the retirement age for employees was raised to 56. The company is hoping to prevent a talent gap or brain drain from occurring.

Recruitment: Lam Soon Edible Oils often re-employs retirees through contract employment so the skill sets of older workers can be maintained. Annual salary increases, performance bonuses and health insurance are offered to all contractual employees.

During the recruitment process, the company does not discriminate based on age. The selection process is driven by a candidate's functional competencies, experience and technical know-how.

Miscellaneous: Balancing the bottom-line and employees' satisfaction are of the utmost importance to Lam Soon Edible Oils. The company achieves this goal by maintaining a safe and age-friendly workplace, where all are treated equally.

Performance-linked bonuses also help to drive results at all levels. The Long Service Awards serves as another incentive to perform well. Any employee, whether permanent or contractual, who has served the company for more than 15 years is eligible to receive the award.
