Health Promotion and Protection: The organization promotes health for all age cohorts to encourage long-term employability. Physical health is encouraged through sport offerings and healthy eating choices. A nutritional consultant is available in-house to help employees make smarter eating choices.
Health Days are offered several times throughout the year allowing employees to receive blood pressure and blood sugar tests, weight checks, vision screenings and skin cancer screenings.
The company also offers psychological support and counseling by an in-house therapist to help maintain mental health. An addiction program is also in place to intervene at various stages of addiction.
Diversity Promotion: DSW21 practices comprehensive diversity management to ensure employees participate in all aspect of the company's work regardless, of age, gender, race, religion or disability.
The company launched PRO AGE in 2003 to promote understanding of demographic issues. The program has twice received awards and has been lauded in the media.
Intergenerational teams are promoted throughout the organization to encourage know-how transfers for future managers.
Recruitment: Though DSW21 has no special internal policies regarding older workers, the company regularly works with outside staffing agencies to help recruit unemployed older workers back into the workforce. The company's Women in Motion program encourages women to re-enter the workforce after prolonged absences. The program is particularly beneficial to women 40 years of age and older who are trained as drivers and subsequently hired by DSW21.
