From writing a business plan to seeking start-up capital, creating your own business can be a daunting task. That's why AARP has teamed up with the Small Business Administration (SBA) to help Americans over age 50 get the real-world, actionable information they need to start and grow small businesses.

As part of our alliance, SBA and AARP will together train or mentor more than 100,000 "Encore Entrepreneurs" over the next year. This April, AARP and SBA will co-host “Mentor Month” activities nationwide, including live workshops with accomplished business leaders, one-on-one mentoring sessions and mentoring brown-bag lunches (read our press release to learn more about Mentor Month). Find local events hosted by AARP and the Small Business Administration using this interactive map.

You can also review free online resources AARP and the SBA have developed to help 50-plus entrepreneurs launch or grow their own business. For example, there’s a free online course for 50+ entrepreneurs and the SBA's Self-Assessment Tool, which can help you determine if you're ready to be your own boss. Another feature, SBA Direct, will bring directly to your desktop the targeted resources you need to start, operate and grow your small business.
