This AARP Public Policy Institute fact sheet highlights the employment situation for older persons as of November 2012.
The unemployment rate for those aged 55 and over stayed steady at 5.8 percent but was still below the rate of 6.4 percent one year earlier. Approximately 1.9 million older Americans were out of work and looking for a job in November, not much changed from October. Average duration of unemployment for older jobseekers fell somewhat but remained above one year.
