This AARP Public Policy Institute fact sheet highlights the employment situation for older persons as of October 2012.
The unemployment rate for those aged 55 and over dipped to 5.8 percent from 5.9 percent in September and was well below the rate of 7 percent one year earlier. Approximately 1.9 million older Americans were out of work and looking for a job in October, not much changed from September. Average duration of unemployment for older jobseekers rose once again and remains above one year.
