New Help in Finding a Job

If you or someone you know is looking for a job, AARP has good news for you. We recently launched a free online job service designed to help job seekers find work, no matter where in the country they are located. Like other age groups, workers who are 50 and older have been adversely affected by the economic downturn. However, once unemployed, older workers continue to remain out of work longer than their younger counterparts.

In these tough times, free resources like the AARP job search engine is invaluable to many people who are trying to get back into the work place. Visitors to the website will be able to search job openings by state and zip code. The jobs are broken down by industry, occupations and even title.

“AARP now has one of the most robust and experienced job search sites for mature job seekers in the country,” said AARP Kansas State Director Maren Turner. “We hope Kansas job seekers will take advantage of this new tool to find work.”

In addition to the search engine, the AARP work channel is a one-stop destination which provides information and the tools job seekers are looking for to help them with such skills as preparing resumes, interviewing and other job hunting tips.

Fortunately, in Kansas there are more job vacancies this year than last year, according to the 2010 Job Vacancy Survey released Oct. 8, by the Kansas Department of Labor. The survey found there were an estimated 32,091 job vacancies statewide which represents a 24.5 percent increase in vacancies since 2009.
