En español | The nation's capital continues to head a list of the top cities for finding work. The rankings are based on the latest job market competition ratings from Indeed.com.

The ratings compare the number of people looking for work with the number of advertised positions in a given area. Here are the 10 cities with the most favorable ratios of job hunters to job openings:

No matter where you live, finding a job continues to be challenging. The national unemployment rate of 9.1 percent compares with a rate of 6.8 percent for workers 50 and older, according to Terry McMenamin of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 55 percent of the workers who have been searching for jobs for six months or more are 55 or older.

If you don't live in one of these highly ranked cities, don't give up hope. Try these job tips to increase your chances of getting hired, consider part-time employment until something better comes along or even explore working for yourself.
