This AARP Public Policy Institute fact sheet highlights the employment situation for older people as of February 2012. At 5.9 percent, the February unemployment rate for people aged 55 and older remained unchanged from January. However, the number of older people with jobs rose, as did the employment-to-population ratio.
Nearly 1.9 million older people were out of work and looking for a job in February. Average duration of unemployment for older jobseekers fell slightly but at 54.1 weeks remained about one year, as it has since April 2011.
