Benefits/Alternative Work Arrangements: Massachusetts General offers the following alternative work arrangements to its full- and part-time employees: flextime, compressed work schedules, job sharing, telecommuting, and a formal phased-retirement program. Employees interested in phased retirement meet with staff members to discuss flexible work options. Full-time employees are eligible to move to part-time work on a permanent or temporary basis.

Opportunities for Retirees: Massachusetts General currently has 1,982 retirees and an employee directly responsible for retiree relations. The hospital stays connected with its retirees by communicating regularly, by inviting retirees to organization events and celebrations, by providing retirees with ongoing access to retirement planning workshops and information, and by formally acknowledging them when they retire. The hospital offers retirees temporary work assignments, consulting and contract work, telecommuting, full- and part-time work, and volunteer work.

Age of Workforce: Twenty-eight percent of Massachusetts General employees are age 50+. The average tenure of employees age 50+ is 15 years.
