The health system offers short-term time off without pay and long-term leaves of absence without pay to allow for caregiving.

Bon Secours offers the following wellness programs to full- and part-time employees: flu shots, health screenings, health-risk appraisals, smoking cessation programs, health club discounts, physical activity and exercise programs, weight loss programs, stress management training, a wellness incentive plan, and a “nutrition and wellness across the lifespan” program. Sixty-three percent of the health system’s employees have used at least one of the health system’s wellness benefits during the past 12 months.

The health system offers on-site care children and grandchildren, onsite eldercare, backup care for children and grandchildren, backup eldercare, and referral services to assist with care for children and grandchildren, and for eldercare, to its full- and part-time employees. Bon Secours also offers college scholarships to its employees’ grandchildren.

Benefits/Alternative Work Arrangements: Bon Secours offers the following alternative work arrangements to its full- and part-time employees: flextime, compressed work schedules, job sharing, telecommuting, and a formal phased-retirement program.

The phased-retirement program gives employees three options: 1) retiring and later getting rehired without jeopardizing retirement checks, 2) retiring at age 65 but continuing to work part-time while collecting a pension, or 3) working past age 70 ½ and beginning to receive a pension regardless of status.

Full-time employees are eligible to move to part-time work on a permanent or temporary basis.

Opportunities for Retirees: Bon Secours currently has 902 retirees and an employee directly responsible for retiree relations. The health system stays connected with its retirees by communicating regularly, by providing ongoing access to retirement planning workshops and information, and by formally acknowledging employees on their retirement. Retirees can perform temporary work assignments, consulting and contract work, volunteering, and full- and part-time work.

Age of Workforce: Thirty percent of Bon Secours employees are age 50+. The average tenure of employees age 50+ is 11 years.
