Securian has two Occupational Health Nurses on staff to assist employees with medical issues. The company also has a separate department in which health-care professionals can deliver minor medical services, such as blood-pressure monitoring, tetanus shots, flu shots, and beds for injured or sick employees. All employees also have access to on-site care for children and grandchildren, to referral services to help find day care for children, grandchildren, and elders, and to backup child care.
Benefits/Alternative-Work Arrangements: Securian employees who work full-time and at least 20 hours per week can opt for compressed work schedules. If they work at least 10 hours per week, employees can telecommute. Full- and part-time employees can participate in job sharing, and all employees have the opportunity to work flex schedules. Securian's "North Star 25 Club" invites retirees and employees who have worked for the organization for 25 years or more to join. Retirees also have volunteer opportunities at the company and eligibility for a matching-gift program.
Securian maintains a roster of retirees who are available for temporary assignments, consulting or contract work, telecommuting, and full- or part-time positions. Securian participates in the National Recruiters Fair, which gives the company access to a pool of mature job candidates.
