Pepco Holdings Inc. allows employees time off without pay or unpaid leavesof absence specifically to care for children or family members.

The company also offers both full- and part-time employees wellnessbenefits, including flu shots, health screenings, health-risk appraisals, smoking-cessationprograms, discounts to local fitness facilities, physical-activity programs,and weight-loss counseling, In addition, through its Cardio Assessmentsprogram, Pepco offers its all employees free screenings to detect their strokeand heart-attack risk.

Phi’s Tobacco Solutions program provides all employees support andresources, free anti-smoking prescriptions, deductibles and co-pay waivers, andnicotine-replacement therapies.

Over the past 12 months, 48 percent of all employees have used at least oneof Pepco's wellness benefits.

Pepco offers full- and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours perweek referral services to care providers serving children and elders. Thecompany also offers backup care for children and elders, regardless of hoursworked per week.

Benefits/Alternative-Work Arrangements: Pepco offers full- andpart-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week flex-time schedules,compressed-work schedules, and telecommuting. Full-time employees have theopportunity to move to part-time work on a permanent or temporary basis.

Pepco also offers informal and flexible work arrangements to workers nearingretirement. The company is currently working to implement a formalphased-retirement program.

Opportunities for Retirees: Pepco Holdings has 4,248 retireesand a staff person with direct responsibility for relations with thoseretirees. The company keeps connections with its retired workers throughregular communications, invitations to organization events or celebrations, andformal acknowledgements on the occasion of employees' retirement. In addition,Pepco also sends retirees a monthly newsletter with all internal and externalorganization information.

Pepco also maintains a contact list of its retirees who are available towork in temporary assignments, consulting or contract work, telecommutingarrangements, and part-time or full-time work.

Age of Workforce:  Forty-eight percent of Pepco Holdings employees are age 50+, with an average tenure  of 26 years.
