Pearson offers full- and part-time employees referral services to assist with day care for children, grandchildren, and elders. Backup care for children and elders are also available to employees. What's more, the company's "Prepare to Care" on-site geriatric-care-manager program offers employees special counseling by a trained professional with certifications in gerontology, nursing, social work, and counseling.

Benefits/Alternative-Work Arrangements: Employees who work at least 21 hours per week are eligible for flextime, telecommuting, or job sharing. Employees who work at least 35 hours per week are eligible to work on compressed schedules. Full-time employees have the opportunity to move to part-time work on a temporary or permanent basis.

Opportunities for Retirees: Pearson currently has 3,400 retirees and a staff person responsible for managing retiree relations. The company stays connected to its retiree population through invitations to events and by formally acknowledging them upon retirement. Pearson maintains a roster of retirees available to work and offers them temporary assignments and contract, telecommuting, and full- and part-time opportunities.

Age of Workforce: Twenty-nine percent of Pearson’s employees are age 50+, with an average tenure of 11 years.
