Opportunities for Retirees: The Commonwealth’s 9,802 retirees benefit from the dedication of a staff member who is directly responsible for retiree relations. The retiree-relations employee stays connected to the retiree population via regular communications, invitations to organization events, and ongoing access to retirement planning. The Commonwealth formally acknowledges employees when they retire, and a formal post-retirement employment option permits retirees to work up to 960 hours per year and still receive their pensions. Other retiree work options include temporary job assignments, consulting, telecommuting, and part-time work.  

Age of Workforce: Forty-three percent of employees of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Branch are ages 50+, with average tenure of 19.5 years.
