Benefits/Alternative Work Arrangements: Alternative work arrangements offered to employees include flextime, compressed-work schedules, job-sharing, and telecommuting. All alternative-work schedules are open to employees working at least 20 hours a week. Full-time employees can move to part-time work on a permanent or temporary basis.
Opportunities for Retirees: The City of Glendale has 500 retirees who benefit from a full-time employee whose responsibilities include managing retiree relations.
The city maintains relationships with retirees by sending them a steady stream of communication—in the form of invitations to organizational events, access to retirement-planning workshops and information, and by formally acknowledging employees on the anniversary of their retirement. Retirees are also eligible for full- and part-time work, consulting or contract work, and temporary job assignments.
Age of Workforce: Twenty-nine percent of the employees of the City of Glendale are age 50+, with an average tenure of 12.4 years.
