My Generation Garners Daytime Emmy Nomination

AARP TV program nominated in Outstanding Lifestyle Program category for second consecutive year

AARP’s My Generation has been nominated for a National Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Lifestyle Program category for the second consecutive year.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy, universally acknowledged as the highest honor in the television industry.  Winners will be announced on Sunday, June 17 at a ceremony in Los Angeles. The other nominated programs include The Martha Stewart Show (Hallmark), Cars.TV (Cars.TV), Chop Cut Rebuild (SPEED) and Rough Cut (PBS).

This nomination recognizes the full season of programs aired in 2011. The episode submitted for judging is dedicated to the quintessential lifestyle topic — "The Second Chance." Four unique stories of redemption, reinvention, reconstruction and re-creation demonstrate the importance of never giving up. Each reminds us of the countless ways we may all choose to turn adversity into happiness and success, asking, “What would you do with a second chance?”

The feature stories from My Generation include:
Peter  Tork — Children of the 60s remember TV’s pop rock “Pre Fab Four,” The Monkees. “The funny one,” Peter Tork, takes us back and brings us up to date as he shares his intimate Monkee tale of second chance. Discover why fans are still wild about the Monkees.

Dr.  Q  — Imagine growing up in extreme poverty with no chance for change. That’s how a former migrant farm worker-turned-renowned brain surgeon started out. How did he go from picking tomatoes to saving lives? Could his second chance lead to a cure for cancer?

Greensburg,  KS — A natural disaster can destroy anything in its path. But when a tornado nearly wiped a tiny Kansas town off the map, its citizens were determined to make the most of a second chance. Can becoming the “green capital of America” be the answer?

Junk  Mail — Second chances can come from anywhere…even in the mail! Meet a resourceful artist who found beauty in a messy mailbox.
