I've tried various free Web sites—with no luck—to find a travel companion (female) to share a cabin on a 21-day, nine-country cruise to Eastern Europe, Russia, and Turkey on Regent departing on Sept. 18. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Dear Katie,
I checked in with Regent, and unfortunately, this luxury line doesn’t offer any matching services. If the line has a surplus of cabins upon sailing, it may cut the single supplement. Even in today’s economy, however, that’s a rarity.
You mentioned using Web sites to find travel companions, but did you check with cruise message boards? We recommend posting your travel plans on a cruise message board. One Web site is “Cruise Critic”; if you search through sections like “solo cruises” or “single cruises,” you may find a like-minded individual.
Another site, “Cruise Mates,” hosts a similar board for discussion, and it may be useful to post your desire for a female travel companion under that site’s “singles” Category. There is also a “meet on board” forum on this site. Lastly, Lonely Planet’s “Thorn Tree” forum has an entire branch devoted to finding travel companions.
