Hello,
I have a “J” stomach tube, and I cannot drink liquids. May I go through customs for my international flight to Germany in May and carry the powder "Thicken Up," which I need to thicken juice to eat with a spoon? This powder will be used on the eight-hour flight as well.

A: According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), any disability-related equipment and associated supplies can be taken on board a plane. The powder you refer to is not technically a medical device, but since you need it for medical reasons, you should have no problem bringing it with you. Furthermore, there is no ban on bringing powders on a plane, only on liquids and gels in quantities exceeding 3 ounces.
I recommend bringing medical documentation of your condition with you on your trip, so that you can avoid any possible complications or confusion, both in the States and in Germany.
