3. Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico
Explore this subterranean limestone wonderland in southern New Mexico on the self-guided Big Room Tour or on one of the longer guided forays into the Kings Palace or Left Hand Tunnel caves. Each evening from mid-May to mid-October, a crowd gathers at the cavern entrance to witness the exodus of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats flying into the sunset in search of insect prey.
