LOON MOUNTAIN, NEW HAMPSHIRE
Eastern skiers seeking carve-worthy corduroy will find a groomed heaven at Loon Mountain, which this year bears the fruit of a major investment: the addition of 428 snow-making guns (more than doubling previous output) and a state-of-the-art grooming machine that features 40 percent more grooming surface and pushing power than standard gear.
Typically, at least 80 percent of the mountain is groomed nightly; highlight runs include Walking Boss on North Peak, Boom Run and the aptly named Cruiser on South Peak. Older Skiers seeking a bigger challenge can head to Loon’s upper-mountain steeps and trees of North and Loon peaks. Those whose idea of a ski trip includes plenty of pampering can check out the slopeside Viaggio Spa at the Mountain Club on Loon. The Woodstock Inn Station & Brewery is among the many establishments in Lincoln and North Woodstock, NH, that offer fare and atmosphere for all generations.
Lift tickets: Ages 65-79 pay $56 (regularly $76); over 80, free.
