En español | AARP VIVA Editor Gabriela Zabalúa-Goddard and AARP Travel ambassador Peter Greenberg crisscrossed the country on a five-star adventure led by the man who knows Mexico best.
In a nonstop adventure that touched down in places as disparate as the birthplace of tequila, the famous Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve and the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Palenque and Calakmul, President Felipe Calderón showed why UNESCO has designated much of Mexico — including its traditional cuisine — as cultural treasures. But perhaps the most valuable treasure is its people, including many of those the entourage met along the way. The tour spanned thousands of miles separating the southeastern borderlands from the northwestern coastlines. It also went on a journey through time, from the 10th century BCE to the present. Come see some of Calderón's favorite spots.
