5. Curaçao
Tucked safely out of the path of hurricanes for more than 120 years, Curaçao is the rare Western Caribbean island that warmly welcomes LGBT visitors to its pink-and-white sand beaches. Among all the neighboring islands, it has the largest number of hotels that belong to the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association. That means that the front desk clerk at a major hotel won't do a double-take when you and your partner ask for a suite with a king-sized bed.
Curaçao draws a 50-plus crowd to its harborside capital, Historic Willemstad, named on UNESCO's World Heritage List for its pastel-colored, 17th- and 18th-century buildings. One mile to the east along Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard is Sea Aquarium Beach and its boardwalk, frequented by gays of all generations.
