At first glance, Wilmington is all business, as it has been since the first Swedish settlers arrived in 1638. An important industrial center since the American Revolution, it is now home to a number of large corporations, including banking, insurance, and pharmaceutical companies, as well as DuPont.
On weekends, the city puts away the briefcase and puts on its running shoes. The parks and Riverfront trail are filled with joggers and picnickers. It seems everyone gathers around a restaurant table with friends. The museums, theaters, and nearby Brandywine Valley beckon, too. And visitors are most welcome: Hotels deals are plentiful and there's more than enough room in the restaurants, along the trails, and at any of the city's attractions.
