If you travel a great deal or split your time between residences, a new product called Slingbox will allow you to access all your local TV shows on your Internet-connected laptop, smartphone or tablet with no monthly fee.
The ability to watch your home television anywhere is known as "placeshifting," because you don't need to be at the place where you typically watch your TV shows, such as your living room. With a product like Slingbox, you can even access prerecorded content from your DVR. Watching content when you want, by the way, is referred to as "timeshifting."
