“All citizens must realize the importance of safely discarding no longer needed documents that contain personal identifying information. Shredding those documents is a significant step towards preventing identity theft,” said Ruth Wagner, AARP West Virginia State President.
An on-site document destruction company will provide a truck to help shred documents.
“Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. Each year, thousands of West Virginia citizens and businesses lose millions of dollars to identity theft,” Wagner said. “This event is an opportunity to reach out to the community and help West Virginians discard outdated personal documents.”
