Wisconsin’s budget for the next two years will take shape during the first six months of 2005.

State legislators, many coming to Madison for the first time, will make critical decisions that affect hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin residents.

That’s why AARP needs to hear stories from members and their families from all over Wisconsin.

It’s one thing to quote numbers and dollars as we fight to save programs and services from cutbacks. But our efforts are more effective when we can share an individual story with a legislator, bringing a program and its services into sharp personal focus. The impact is even greater when the story comes from someone living in the legislator’s own district.

AARP will continue to fight to protect or expand key services that benefit older Wisconsinites.

Maintaining full funding for SeniorCare will once again be AARP Wisconsin’s top priority. We will strongly oppose any attempt to change SeniorCare’s benefits or eligibility levels. And we will oppose any move to impose greater cost-sharing burdens—higher enrollment fees, higher deductibles, higher copays—on SeniorCare’s 91,000 participants.

AARP priorities for Wisconsin’s state budget also include:

  • More funding for home- and community-based long-term care services.
  • Full funding for Medicaid services, including BadgerCare and Medical Assistance.
  • More investment in alternative transportation.

Please share your stories with us—about yourself, about someone in your family, about someone you know—to help us win these important battles.

  • Has SeniorCare helped you? Would cuts in SeniorCare hurt you?
  • Do you know someone who’s in a nursing home because there wasn’t enough money for home care services?
  • Do you find it difficult to get to the store or to the doctor’s office because there’s no public transportation?

To share your story, e-mail or call toll-free (866) 448-3611.

Thank you. Your support will make a difference!
