AARP Wisconsin announces the appointment of Albert W. Majkrzak (pronounced May-zak) of Madison to the two-year position of State President—the highest state-level position within the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that has more than 840,000 members statewide and more than 39 million nationwide.

Majkrzak, who is retired after serving 26 years in congregational and regional pastoral leadership positions, has been an AARP member for 10 years and a top AARP Wisconsin grassroots advocate for the past eight months. He was appointed to the State President position by AARP Midwest Volunteer Director Dave Mills.

“Al is a tireless advocate who truly understands and embodies everything AARP is striving to achieve,” said AARP Wisconsin State Director D’Anna Bowman. “We are thrilled and honored to have Al lead our statewide efforts, which focus on making life better for Wisconsin’s 50-plus population.”

Majkrzak said he grew up during a time of activism and witnessed firsthand the positive difference that people can make when they come together. “Through the years I have always been deeply involved in the larger community, working with others to make our common lives better. It was that understanding that brought me to AARP,” he said.

Majkrzak, who has leadership experience with churches in California, Connecticut, Illinois and South Milwaukee, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the University of the State of New York and Masters of Divinity Degree from Episcopal Theological Seminary in Kentucky.

As AARP Wisconsin’s State President, Majkrzak will work with AARP members, state residents and legislators on health care and financial security issues and voter education. Majkrzak and his wife, Karen, have three grown children and have lived in Madison for three years.
