Join a Community Conversation on Health Care and Financial Security

By: States: South Dakota | Source: AARP.org

Health care costs are rising faster than inflation, and people are working harder than ever just to get by—let alone save to build a secure future. To address these critical issues, AARP South Dakota will host two community conversations on health care and financial security Monday, June 30th at 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

“Health care costs are rising for individuals, businesses and families,” said Sarah Jennings, State Director for AARP South Dakota. “We need to urge our elected officials to work together and put partisan politics aside to get the job done and provide health and financial security for all. The involvement of individuals, businesses and candidates for office will help shape the debate on these issues for the future.”

Residents of the Rapid City area of all ages, AARP members, retired educators and community leaders are encouraged to join these conversations to share their concerns, opinions and personal stories about health and financial security. The guided discussion will address the options and trade-offs that might be necessary to solve the challenge of achieving quality, affordable health care and financial security for all.

“It is critical to hear from AARP members, and South Dakotans of all ages,” Jennings said. “Public input is essential to help determine what the future of health care should look like in America, and what trade-offs the public is willing to accept in order to move toward workable solutions. This is an opportunity to truly make a difference.”

AARP membership is not necessary to attend. Individuals wishing to participate in the conversation should register by calling toll free, 1-877-926-8300.

The event is part of Divided We Fail (www.dividedwefail.org), a nationwide effort led by AARP to engage the public and urge candidates and elected officials to put partisan politics aside to provide health and financial security for all.

AARP will host additional community conversations in Mitchell, July 16, and in Huron, August 29.
