There isn't anyone a legislator listens to more closely than a voter. Join AARP South Dakota in Pierre January 28, 29 and 30, 2008 for Lobby Days at the State Capitol. Show South Dakota lawmakers that AARP members are paying attention to what happens in Pierre and make a difference for South Dakotans of all generations.
"It makes a tremendous impression on legislators when they see the gallery filled with AARP members," said Sarah Jennings, AARP South Dakota State Director. "In 2007, more than 200 AARP South Dakota members from across the state flooded the State Capitol. In 2008 we want an even stronger show of force as we tackle health care and long-term care issues."
In 2007, more than 30 state legislators and statewide elected officials accepted the invitation to lunch and conversation with members.
"We are pleased so many Legislators realized the importance and value of meeting with our volunteers who made the trip to Pierre to be a voice for our more than 102,000 AARP members in South Dakota," said Jennings.
AARP South Dakota will provide bus transportation from several locations, as well as a noon meal in Pierre, and a brown-bag lunch for the trip home. In Pierre, we provide an opportunity for conversation with legislators representing each district. Before returning home, each group will watch the legislature in action, and be recognized by members of State House, or Senate.
