Join AARP as we celebrate our past, embrace the present and look to the future.  AARP’s 50th anniversary, “Generations Connecting for Change,” will be a national celebration highlighting AARP’s foundation of leadership and service to others by uniting the generations and building a better future. Throughout 2008 AARP South Dakota will hold several anniversary celebrations across the state and we invite everyone to join in the fun.

May 9th at the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls,  AARP South Dakota will host a sock hop from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Step into the ‘50s!  Wear your poodle skirts and leather jackets—enjoy ‘50s music and refreshments.  Your kids and grandkids are welcome, too.  The Center for Active Generations is located at 2300 W. 46th Street, just south of the Western Mall.

The excitement continues west-river July 1, as AARP South Dakota holds a day-long celebration at Crazy Horse Memorial in Custer South Dakota. Native American Hoop Dancers will perform at 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. with cake and refreshments served between performances. Admission fee is three cans of food per person for the KOTA Care and Share food drive or a cash donation.  Re-admit passes will be available for those who wish to return for the laser light show at dark (approximately 9 p.m.) For directions and information on Crazy Horse Memorial visit www.crazyhorsememorial.org

Local chapters and Retired Teacher Association (RTA) units will also be holding celebrations throughout the year.

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, AARP remains committed to making life better for all people as they age.  We hope you’ll come along and join the fun, and be part of our efforts to improve life today, and for generations to come.
