AARP fights for issues that matter to you, in Washington and here at home in South Dakota. In recent years, AARP South Dakota has been instrumental is passing significant legislation to enhance protections for the elderly against abuse, protect older workers from discrimination, ensure property tax relief for older homeowners, and establish the Long-Term Care Partnership Program. But our work is far from finished.

Some of our biggest challenges lie ahead, in achieving for affordable quality health care and financial security for current and future generations. But we can't do it alone. We need your voice to fight on behalf of South Dakota's 106,800 AARP members as well as their families and neighbors.

Here's how you can help. The AARP South Dakota Advocacy Volunteer Recruitment Campaign is looking for AARP members in all 35 of our state legislative districts to join us as a voice for change. Individuals chosen to represent their legislative district will serve as an advocate for our state legislative priorities during the legislative session each year. Regularly scheduled conference calls will provide updates on AARP South Dakota's legislative progress, and individuals will be called upon to address specific legislative issues with their local members of the legislature.

Volunteers will serve throughout the year, although the majority of their work will occur during the legislative session.

You can make a difference.

Become a voice for change to create good for all South Dakotans. Contact associate state director for advocacy, Sam Wilson at swilson@aarp.org to join AARP South Dakota as an advocacy volunteer. Please provide your contact information, and your local state legislative district.
