The old adage, "April showers bring May flowers," certainly could be used as an analogy for all the work that's going on at AARP this month and for the "flowers" that work will bring over the coming months. Starting with several financial management brown bag luncheons in late April and a series of Divided We Fail community blitzes in May, June, July, and August, we are on the cusp of a very busy and exciting year packed with events all around the state. With so many exciting activities going on, I thought I'd take just a minute to talk about our biggest event in the coming weeks, our AARP Sioux Falls Community Blitz.

This year, on May 8th through May 10th, we are going to have an exciting schedule of opportunities for AARP members and the general public in the Sioux Falls area: a "Spring Cleaning/Shred It" event offering free, confidential document destruction services; an intergenerational Sock Hop at the Center for Active Generations, an elected official/candidate Divided We Fail open house for AARP members and the general public to meet local candidates for legislative offices as well as current city elected officials; an all-day financial management seminar offering 30 courses on various topics; and several other activities that will allow individuals to find out more about Divided We Fail and how they can become a part of this exciting campaign focusing on the issues of health care and financial security. You can find out more about these exciting events in this issue of the AARP South Dakota E-Update and well as by checking out our state website at www.aarp.org/sd.

For those of you outside of Sioux Falls, stay tuned for events coming your way throughout the spring and summer months. From all of us here at the AARP South Dakota office, thank you for being a part of these and other events throughout the year and remember, "Divided We Fail, but together, we can do anything!"
