Meet the AARP South Carolina Executive Council

Charles A. Johnson, State President

Charles A. Johnson of Columbia is the AARP South Carolina State President. Johnson is a retired attorney from Ohio who has a special interest in consumer and intergenerational issues.

"I am delighted to have been selected to serve as the state president for AARP South Carolina," said Johnson. "In my law practice, I enjoyed solving problems for my clients and look forward in advancing AARP's social impact agenda."

Johnson currently volunteers with the care and compassion ministry in his church and enjoys reading to elementary school children. He has been involved with an inner city youth program in Ohio and leadership positions with his former church.

Malcolm Dade, Jr.

Dade has a long history of campaign experience and government relations. He retired as Vice President of Human Resources from Detroit Edison. Dade has been a member of AARP's local action team in Columbia, is active in St. Luke's Episcopal Church and has served on the board of the Penn Center, St. Helena Island.

Roger Amidon

Amidon is a resident of Columbia. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Norman J. Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina. For more than 35 years he served in numerous higher education capacities including research and teaching hospital management, policy, long term care administration and gerontology.

Wallace Cunningham

Cunningham serves as a member of the Columbia Local Action Team. He is employed full time as a manager with the state Department of Social Services where he supervises the overall functions of a child, adult and protective services system support team. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and is active in numerous community boards and committees.

Genevieve Brown

Brown serves as president of the AARP Anderson chapter and prior to retirement and moving to South Carolina, she served as vice president for the Faith Center for Community Development, Inc. in New York. She was the first woman to hold the post of Deputy Borough President of the Bronx from 1990 to 1998. She is active in her community serving on numerous boards and advisory councils.

Liz Norris

Norris has a long history of state agency and university experience. She is currently employed part-time as a research associate at the University of South Carolina Center for Health Services and Policy Research at the Norman J. Arnold School of Public Health. Her career in human service has allowed her to work with numerous state and community organizations in a variety of jobs.
