Beginning Feb. 1 and continuing through April 15, over 150 IRS certified AARP volunteers will staff over 60 tax-aide sites throughout Rhode Island.

Included in the sites are the Veteran's Medical Center in Providence and the U.S. Naval Station Family Service in Newport. The AARP Tax- Aide volunteers will assist middle and low income citizens with their income tax filings and questions. Special help is offered to those 60 and older.

AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. Last year, over 4500 tax returns were filed by AARP Tax-Aide volunteers in Rhode Island.

The tax-aide volunteers, trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, will offer help with both Federal and State income tax returns. Returns can be as e-file or paper, although e-file returns are strongly recommended whenever possible.

Reggie Narciso, Tax-Aide volunteer from Portsmouth said, "I enjoy working with Tax-Aide. Helping taxpayers understand the complex tax forms and helping them fill out the forms correctly is very satisfying". He continued, "Tax law can often be very confusing. AARP volunteers can make the process a whole lot easier and is greatly appreciated by the taxpayers".
