AARP State and Federal Advocacy
By: Source: Date Posted:
AARP is working hard in all 50 states, Washington, DC, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico for legislation, regulations, and initiatives that will improve the quality of life for persons 50 and over and their families. At the state level, we work closely with the state lawmakers, in drafting legislation and arguing for or against proposed legislation, participating at regulatory hearings and educating members.
AARP Legislative Policy and Priorities
AARP policy and legislative decisions are made at the national level by the volunteer Board of Directors. Their decisions are guided by input from the volunteer National Legislative Council, by feedback from member surveys, general member communications, and AARP sponsored hearings and events and environmental analysis and policy research. As the nation's leading membership organization for Americans 50 and over, we want to make sure that our positions are supported by the majority of our membership.
You can learn more about AARP's work on federal legislation and help in that effort in our Issues and Elections area. A complete listing of AARP's positions on issues, both state and federal, can be found in AARP Public Policies.
