Finding Work at 50+
By: State: Oregon | Source: AARP.org
Diane Sparks, 57, of Oregon City searches for job leads at an associate’s office. She is staying upbeat, despite having been laid off and losing health coverage.
With its unemployment rate the second highest in the country, Oregon’s economic woes are considerable.
Whether you or a loved one have lost your job or are afraid you might, or you’re looking to make a career change and find the work you’ll love, it can be a tumultuous experience. AARP, Life by Design Northwest and Portland Community College have designed a free workshop—Finding Work at 50+—to help older workers navigate these issues.
Job hunting has changed a lot over the past few decades. If you're looking for work in today's competitive job market, you'll need a strategy that is different from what may have worked in the past.
You'll learn how to spiff up the resume, identify and incorporate key words in materials that job recruiters search for in finding the best applicant, and boost your job interviewing skills. You'll receive a job search packet from the state of Oregon, plus job hunting tips and local resources that can help. And you'll get information regarding access to health care during transitions and other benefits that might be available
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, July 15, at PCC’s Cascade Campus. Reserve your space today. Learn more and RSVP at www.findingworkat50plus.eventbrite.com or by calling 877-926-8300 toll-free.
AARP has also developed a wide variety of online job search information and resources. If you are actively looking for a job and are 50+, visit www.retirementjobs.com for job postings, career advice, "recareering" stories, and much more.
You can also connect with fellow Oregonians facing similar challenges in AARP’s new online community network, ECONnect. Share your experiences, get and exchange tips for surviving a tough economy, and learn about useful resources and events in your community. Don’t miss out—join today!
