Domestic issues—including health care and financial security—will be discussed by presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama when they face off before television cameras in the final debate of this presidential race at 9 p.m. Wed., Oct. 15.

Discussion of domestic policy initially was scheduled for debate on Sept. 26, but this first debate has since been changed to focus on foreign policy. Now it is the candidates' third and final debate on Oct. 15 that is dedicated to the domestic issues that our members tell us are most important to them.

Surveys of AARP members consistently show that the economy and health care are their top domestic priorities, and the issues they want to hear the candidates discuss. AARP is encouraging our members to watch or listen to the 90-minute debate to learn where the candidates stand on the domestic policy issues they care most about.

To make the evening more enjoyable and to encourage individuals to gather together to watch and discuss the debates, AARP is offering its presidential debate watch kit. Each kit contains 10 invitations, 10 AARP 2008 presidential voter guides that feature the candidates' own words in answering our questions, and 10 "Did They Really Say That?" brochures with instruction sheets.

To order a free debate watch kit, members should call toll-free 1-866-389-5653 or send an e-mail to fulfillment@aarp.org and ask for publication number D19018.

In addition, AARP Ohio is hosting a presidential debate watch gathering for the final debate on Oct. 15 at the Marriott Courtyard in North Canton. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and the event will feature food, entertainment and information before the 90-minute debate begins at 9 p.m.

Please register to attend this event by Oct. 14 by calling toll free 877-926-8300.

The only vice-presidential candidate debate is scheduled to be televised at 9 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 2. The second presidential candidate debate will be conducted in a town hall format on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Belmont University in Nashville, TN, and will include questions on issued raised by that audience.
