Mary Lu Warstler of Freeport wrote the winning essay in the AARP Ohio contest celebrating our national organization’s 50th anniversary in the category for members 65 and older.

The winning essay in our category for members under 65 was written by Rex A. Van Alstine of Cincinnati, who has three children and five grandsons. He retired at age 62 after a successful battle against colon cancer and now pursues a wide variety of interests, an among them is entering writing contests.

Pam Gary of Logan is runner-up in the 65 and under category. She lives in Ohio’s lovely Hocking Hills with her husband Norm, where for several years she served as administrator of Meals on Wheels in Hocking, Athens and Perry counties. Pam said that experience taught her more than she ever expected about the aging life.
