Here’s How You Can Make a Difference
By: State: Ohio
AARP members help achieve goals that Ohioans care about—access to affordable health care, protecting financial assets, fighting fraud, and more. Choice and flexibility are key benefits to volunteering with AARP. Many of our volunteer opportunities can be done from home or your community and have flexible schedules: you decide when and how much you serve. Together, we can assess your interests and identify your talents so we can find the perfect spot for you.
What Are My Choices?
Advocacy: Strategy and Grassroots Activities
AARP is a strong advocate working on issues that affect people older and younger than 50. Whether it's improving the choices individuals have for their long-term care services or lobbying for affordable health care for all Americans, AARP volunteers serve as a powerful voice. Add your voice as a volunteer advocate on state and federal issues.
Community Service: Help Individuals in Your Community
AARP volunteers live our motto, “To Serve, Not To Be Served.” You can choose from a range of opportunities to provide service to individuals.
You can:
- Become an AARP Driver Safety instructor and teach older drivers how to refresh their skills.
- Prepare basic tax returns for people of all ages with low and moderate incomes in your community with AARP Tax-Aide and save them money on costly preparation services (Jan. through April 15 only).
- Help nursing home residents and their families understand their rights and help them resolve problems as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman. This volunteer opportunity is a collaboration of AARP with the Ohio Department of Aging.
What are the Benefits?
