Flu Season is Here—Have You Gotten Vaccinated?
By: State: Ohio
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, last year in Ohio, 40.6% of adults age 50–64 and 74.0% of adults 65+ received their annual flu shot.
Were you among the vaccinated?
If not, don’t make the same mistake this year! Influenza, more commonly known as the flu, peaks in late winter and getting vaccinated well into the New Year can help protect Americans age 50+ this flu season.
Influenza is more than just a bad cold—it's a serious disease that can result in time away from work, trips to the doctor or hospital, serious complications (including pneumonia), and even death.
Each year, 200,000 people are hospitalized in America, and 36,000 people die due to influenza or its complications. Annual vaccination is the safest, most effective method for preventing the spread of the influenza virus and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends all people 50 and over get a flu vaccination.
This winter, AARP and the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) are working together to encourage older Americans to protect themselves and those they love by getting vaccinated.
