Attorney General Andrew Cuomo Targets "Free Lunch" Investment Seminars

By: States: New York  | Source: AARP.org  | Date Posted:

Are “free lunch” investment seminars really free? That’s what New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is trying to determine. Specifically, the Attorney General’s office is looking into possible fraudulent activity by brokerage firms and investment advisors in their conduct of investment seminars for potential investors. Of particular interest are so-called “free lunch” seminars—often targeting those 50 and older—so named because a meal, often lunch, is offered as an inducement for investor attendance. AARP New York is cooperating with the Attorney General’s office to help determine whether seminar abuses that have been found in other states are occurring in New York.

If you are interested in participating, please copy and paste the questionnaire below and e-mail it to: skratz@aarp.org or send it postal mail to Stacey Kratz, Program Coordinator, AARP New York, 780 Third Avenue, 33rd Fl., New York, NY 10017. AARP New York will forward your completed questionnaire to the Office of the New York Attorney General.
