On February 13th, 2008, AARP New York celebrated the official launch of the New York State Prescription Drug Price Comparison website.

Five years ago, then Attorney General Eliot Spitzer created a website for consumers to comparison shop for prescription drugs. AARP New York’s Rx Watchdog volunteers played a critical role in supplying drug pricing information as they manually collected pricing data from hundreds of pharmacies around the state. AARP New York then spent two years advocating for the passage and implementation of a law that would create a similar website that would include more pharmacies that would electronically report their pricing information to the Department of Health.

AARP New York State Director Lois Aronstein joined Lt. Governor David Patterson, Senator Martin Golden, Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, New York State Health Commissioner Richard Daines, and State Office for Aging Director Michael Burgess in making opening remarks at the launch of the website.  AARP New York staff and the Rx Watchdog volunteers were celebrated for being the driving force behind the creation of this new permanent, state sponsored retail prescription drug website.

Let your friends and family know that they can easily compare prescription drug prices for the 150 most commonly prescribed drugs at pharmacies in their neighborhoods. The website searches drug prices by zip code, city, or county; provides brand-name and generic drug prices; lists pharmacies' addresses and phone numbers; and provides driving directions.
