Cutting costs – A free guide to programs and tools that aim to make prescription drugs more affordable is now available from AARP Nevada. The pamphlet, “Managing Your Medicine—Rx Drugs in Nevada,” describes a wide variety of programs, including the National Association of Counties prescription drug discount card program, Nevada Senior Rx and the Nevada 2-1-1 program. Developed as part of an ongoing campaign to make prescription drugs more affordable for AARP members, the guide explains which program provides what service to whom. The pamphlet also highlights AARP Nevada’s recent successful push for a law allowing doctors to include the purpose of a medication on its label. For a copy of the free guide, download it at www.aarp.org/nv or call l-866-389-5652 toll free and ask for the Nevada publications hotline.

Beyond voting – In a state new to the experience of holding early presidential caucuses, AARP Nevada is pulling out the stops to encourage voters to participate in these grassroots events. AARP and the Nevada Broadcasters Association are co-sponsoring TV and radio spots, and AARP is underwriting the Vegas PBS Caucus Countdown show. Both Democrats and Republicans will hold caucuses on Jan. 19. These neighborhood meetings are the first step in choosing the party's presidential nominee. Neighbors discuss the candidates and choose delegates to vote for their favorites at the party's county convention. To learn more about the Nevada caucuses, call 1-866-389-5652 toll free.
