AARP Fighting for Affordable Health Care
By: States: New Jersey | Source: AARP.org
AARP’s been fighting for affordable health care for our members for more than 50 years. Health care reform must protect the benefits people in Medicare have today, and ensure that all of our members—younger or older, healthy or sick—have access to affordable coverage.
Many assume that people with Medicare have an easy time paying their medical bills. At AARP we know this is not the case. People on Medicare spend about 30 percent of their incomes on out-of-pocket health costs—including premiums for supplemental coverage. These costs are six times greater than for people with employer coverage.
We’re fighting to guarantee that you’ll never be denied coverage because of your health or age, to prevent anyone from coming between you and your doctor, and to make sure patients don’t take a backseat to insurance companies.
AARP has fought to guarantee none of the benefits you earned were ever taken away. We’re continuing that fight by protecting your freedom to choose the doctors and treatments you need. And to have your tax dollars go toward your care—not insurance company subsidies.
AARP is fighting for you – because your health is worth fighting for.
