On June 16, AARP New Jersey volunteers and staff members flocked to Trenton for a 50th Anniversary Resolution Ceremony, commemorating AARP’s half-century-long commitment to helping people 50+ have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable to them and society as a whole.

Over 40 AARP volunteers attended the resolution ceremony. The volunteers hailed from Atlantic and Cape May counties, and assisted in the planning, coordinating and execution of a recent South Jersey Divided We Fail Blitz.

The volunteers were met by staff members in Trenton for lunch at the Trenton Marriott Lafayette Yard. The volunteers were thanked for their hard work and dedication during “Blitz Week.”

After lunch, the volunteers and staff members journeyed to the New Jersey Statehouse, and entered the New Jersey State Assembly Chambers for the resolution ceremony. The volunteers filled the upstairs gallery with red “Divided We Fail” tee shirts.

Legislators from both sides of the political aisle were present to celebrate AARP and to greet the volunteers in the gallery.  Volunteer leader Minnie Calendar was also honored for her hard work during the Divided We Fail blitz.

Sy Larson, AARP New Jersey State President, and Marylin Askin, AARP Chief Legislative Advocate said a few words thanking the New Jersey State Assembly and the volunteers for attending the event.

The volunteers were treated to a tour of the New Jersey State House before returning back home.
