Find Out Where the Gubernatorial Candidates Stand
By: State: New Jersey | Source: AARP.org
Throughout the cycle of political life in the United States, an important goal of AARP is to reach the candidates and the voters with information about issues important to older Americans and their families. AARP contacts the candidates to:
- Learn of their interests, concerns and positions on issues
- Educate the candidates on issues affecting older voters and their families
- Initiate dialogue which help them become more responsive to the concerns of older Americans and their families
AARP reaches out to voters to:
- Encourage them to become better acquainted with the candidates running for public office
- Raise voter awareness on issues that affect their lives
- Give voters information about candidates’ positions on issues of concern to them, information they can use in evaluating candidates for federal, state and local offices
- Encourage voters to take a more active part in the political process
Older voters are far more active at the polls than any other age group and it is important to AARP to provide accurate information for voters to consider before Election Day. In 2009 in New Jersey, the race for the Governor’s seat is well underway and as part of our voter education commitment to our members, we have asked the candidates four questions on issues that are particularly meaningful for older adults: long-term care, property taxes, prescription drugs and health care.
The voter guide will be in print form in your AARP The Magazine in the November/December issue. In the meantime, we offer you this online version that provides the same complete answers. You will see AARP’s position on each issue and the candidate’s unedited responses.
