There's No Place Like Home

By: State: New Hampshire | Source: AARP.org

A new survey of AARP New Hampshire members reveals overwhelming support for long-term care services that allow them to stay in their homes and communities as they age. This is in stark contrast to the current system where the vast majority of long-term care funding goes to nursing home care, the least desirable and most costly option.

The survey, A Balancing Act: AARP Survey on Long-Term Care Reform in New Hampshire, found that seven in ten members would prefer to receive long-term care services at home, and more than eight in ten members support redirecting funds so a greater percentage goes to home and community-based services. Currently, over 80% of long-term care funding goes to nursing homes, leaving only 20% to the more desirable home- and community-based care.
