Beginning Feb. 1 and continuing through April 15, 150 IRS certified AARP volunteers will staff 47Tax-Aide sites throughout Nebraska. The AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will assist middle and low income citizens with their income tax filings and questions. Special help is offered to those 60 and older.

AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. Last year, 7,891 federal returns and 4,028 state returns were filed by AARP Tax-Aide volunteers in Nebraska.

The Tax-Aide volunteers, trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, will offer help with both Federal and State income tax returns. Returns can be as e-file or paper, although e-file returns are strongly recommended whenever possible.

"I enjoy working with Tax-Aide. Helping taxpayers understand the complex tax forms and helping them fill out the forms correctly is very satisfying," said Dorothy High, Tax-Aide volunteer state coordinator from Scottsbluff. "Tax law can often be very confusing. AARP volunteers can make the process a whole lot easier and is greatly appreciated by the taxpayers."
