Minnesotans around the state are finding connections to Divided We Fail—an effort to make sure that all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care as well as peace of mind about their financial security.

Divided We Fail is working to ensure that the President-elect and other newly elected officials have made public commitments that health and financial security are top domestic issues and that working toward real solutions to these domestic issues is a priority.

Minnesota staff and volunteers have been engaging thousands of Minnesotans in the Divided We Fail effort. More than 13,000 voters have signed the pledge to vote for candidates who put partisan politics aside and make health and financial security solutions top priorities. In fact, AARP collected more than 6,000 pledges during the Minnesota State Fair, including about 4,300 at the State’s Largest Senior Stretch and Stroll.

More than 200 personal stories from Minnesotans affected by health care have been collected, and many are being shared on websites and in publications to promote the need for solutions.

Our elected officials are also engaged. AARP has secured pledge or letter of support from every member of the Minnesota Congressional Delegation. Both Senators Coleman and Klobuchar signed a blown-up pledge publicly.

Members have attended numerous forums across the state in places like Bloomington, Duluth, Alexandria, Rochester, Austin, St. Cloud, to name a few. Volunteers staffed hundreds of booths and community events to spread this message.

Young people are also involved. AARP has been working in an intergenerational partnership with Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) to collect stories from young peoples’ perspectives.

And, the faith community in Minnesota is also interested and getting involved.  Divided We Fail was presented to a congregation of approximately 1500 predominately African American members for Faith Week at Shiloh Temple International Ministries in Minneapolis. AARP has also entered into partnership with the Minnesota Council on Churches to spread the Divided We Fail message to thousands more.
